How can I make this more descriptive?
The only person Max treated as family, Rick was seated upon the shoreline near the Pyro Villages dock. The water glittered in waves over the setting sun, upon hues of red, pink and blue. Sunset came earlier in the winter since days were now shorter in the south and longer in the North. Rick exhaled a drawn out sigh as he knew that if Max was alive he would be up in the North already. He opened his hefty fingers and grasped a smooth, black stone which was cleaved in sand. He stared vacantly, seeing his own reflexion bounce off the stone. He lowered his brows and chucked it across the frozen lake, the stone assaulted the ice, sending tiny cracks expanding about.
I'm a terrible writer, but perhaps expand upon Rick's feelings surrounding him throwing the stone? Also rearranged your wording a bit, just suggestions.
Rick, the only person Max treated as family, was lazily seated upon the shoreline near the Pyro Villages dock. He stared out as the setting sun caused the waves to glitter with hues of red, pink, and blue. The days were much shorter now that winter had come and Rick let out a soft sigh as he knew that if Max was still alive he would have made it to the North already. As he sat and wondered about Max he absentmindedly reached out and grasped a smooth, black stone. Staring vacantly into the stone, he saw his own sunken expression, the thought of losing Max was too much to bear as he lowered his brows and violently chucked the stone across the frozen lake. As the stone hit the ice, small pieces of ice exploded outward and tiny cracks formed on the surface.
