How do u unclog a sink filled with sand?
apparently trying to get rid of a box of sand through the sink is NOT a good idea. i've tried everything without using tools to unclog my sink, but nothing worked. Plungers, just trying to pick the sand out..everything. I need help before i call the plumbers, they are my last resort.
Heres another qxtra question..if i take off the U pipe will water and the sand come out almost instantly? will it squirt out? i need to be perapred!
Place a bucket or other water collector underneath the P-trap. You refer to the P-Trap as the "U". Take the P-trap off the sink throat and waste drain. Yes, water and other contents will come out. That is why you want a good sized container under the P-trap. If there is enough sand in the trap, you probably wont leak anything until the trap is fully dislodged. Clear the trap by tapping it on the bucket if necessary. If there is still sand in the throat of the sink run a hanger or something up inside and clear it all out. You can also run a small amount of water down the sink if the collector is in place. Check the other side of the trap (the side that runs to the drain/sewer) to be sure it is clear. It most likely is. If not do the hanger trick again. This really is a simple fix so don't sweat it. Just screw everything back together and be sure you have the fittings threaded properly. Run water through and check it for leaks. If it leaks be sure the gaskets are in place. Usually you can just hand tighten the fittings. Be sure not to tighten them too much because you could crack a fitting.
