Can anyone tell me what is the advantage of having a salt water swimming pool, and a chlorine pool?
I am looking to purchase a home in Florida, and notice that some are offering salt water pools.Are they cheaper to run? How about corrosion? Does anyone have a salt pool?
Salt water pools are more expensive to run as the cell has to be changed every 2 years and cleaned every 3 months. You can do these yourself but the cell at a pool store will cost you a few hundred. The only real asset to a salt pool is if chemicals bother you, it may be your answer although you will still need to use shock and other chems when needed. Another is the cost of the equiptment itself needed to run it. And you need to know how to operate it unless you hire a company to maintain it. If you over salt the pool, the system won't work and draining the pool is the only way you can bring the salt levels down. If you want simple......go bromine or clorine.
